Freeze Dried Turmeric from my Garden

Freeze-dried Cranberries.  Beautiful!

From top to bottom: Kale from the garden (I powdered it and add it to my smoothies), Beef and Broccoli, Crockpot beans, Brown rice, Candy
Left to right: Green beans, Sugar pop cereal with strawberries and milk, ice cream bars, fresh mangoes

Homemade salsa! (Not my own recipe. A friend gave it to me)

Yogurt Dots made with two different kinds of yogurt. The dots on the left in the smaller jar are made from an off-brand of mango-flavored yogurt (the cheap stuff).  The dots on the right are made from Stoneybrook Organic Vanilla Low-Fat.  Turns out that the cheap stuff makes better dots. They hold together and keep their form much better. Both taste great and rehydrate well, however. I used the dots on the right to make a smoothie and it was perfect! The mango dots proved best for snacking.

This is a one-pound pack of pre-frozen beans from Sam's Club and some sweet bell peppers in rainbow order :)

Mozzerela cheese and ham dices. Both came out great! I diced up 3 medium-sized ham steaks.

Meatloaf! I was worried that this would be too "heavy" to freeze dry, but I baked it on top of a grated cooling rack over a cookie sheet so that the fat could drip out while baking. I then drained it as best I could. After slicing the meatloaf I again drained each piece on paper towels.  It came out dry as a bone.

Left to right: Celery, mangoes, precooked Kamut

Mashed potatoes!  Left: Just coming out of the freeze dryer.  Center: Look how light it is! It holds its shape and breaks apart in large chunks. Right: You can also powder it up for easy storage and easy rehydration.

What was in the rest of that batch?

Whole, Organic Baked chicken.  And then some leftover rice I had in the fridge to fill up the rest of this tray.  The rice will be super convenient to add to recipes.

MORE Fresh mangoes! My kids have already been snacking on them, as you can see...

The last tray in this batch had preboiled potato shreds.  The tray had about 4-5 potatoes on it. It stores perfectly in this half-gallon canning jar.  This will make morning hashbrowns a snap!

Here's what came out of the freeze dryer today: chicken nuggets (hormone-free), organic strawberries, homemade beef stew, pears, bananas

Look at these beautiful fruit and veggie powders made from freeze-dried produce: Strawberry, banana, pear, mango, and banana. Then there's kale and beats!

Precooked hamburger patties. I had planned to put EIGHT on this tray but somebody ate one before I could get it freeze dried.

My Freeze-Dry Story

Hello and Welcome to U-Freeze It. I'm glad you've stopped by to check out this very unique opportunity.  Let me introduce myself and tell you why I started this business. My name is Kelly, and like you, I care about what my family eats.  I also want to make sure that my family always has enough to eat under any circumstance.  As a family of eight, this can be challenging! Over the years I've learned a few tricks to help feed my family affordably like buying in bulk, buying in season, and buying things my family actually likes.  Doing these things has allowed me to get larger quantities of food at good prices and store them for longer-term use. So I've always believed that having a little food stored up was a good idea.  But when the pandemic hit in 2020 my gut told me it was time to really kick things into high gear.  Maybe lots of people's guts did the same thing cause I'm sure you also noticed that the grocery shelves were looking pretty bare.  Panic...

Freeze Dried Fruit and Veggie Powders

"I'm having way too much fun with my freeze dryer!" says one of my good friends who is another avid FD enthusiast.  And I agree with her! There are just so many options when you choose to freeze dry your own food.  My food storage is no longer limited to the boring old "wheat, rice, beans and oats" routine.  My food storage is only limited by my imagination, which is currently running wild.  My plan is to come up with recipes for creating your own smoothies and drinks with these powders. But I see how these could also be used to add nutrition and flavor to pancakes, muffins, and quickbreads.  Maybe I could even sneak some kale powder into the lasagna and my kids will never know.  Pictured above you see strawberry, mango, banana, pear, kale, and beets.  I've also done apple but it didn't make it to the photo.  I love all the vivid colors and boy do they smell wonderful!  I'm wondering if they could even be used as flavor enhancers inste...
